Four major wood drying technologies to solve the cracking problem of classical mahogany furniture
Reasonable regulation of each stage during the drying process is a key technical focus to prevent wood cracking, and it is also a difficult point in the wood drying process. Among them, some commonly overlooked factors, such as heating rate, stress release time, fan speed, and final moisture content, require special attention from mahogany furniture companies.
1. Unable to quickly heat up at the beginning of drying
The wood drying process is divided into preheating stage and drying stage. After the wood enters the drying room, it cannot be heated and dried immediately. It needs to be treated with high temperature and humidity to make the inside and outside heat permeable, which is called preheating treatment in terms of technology. Preheating treatment can increase the temperature of wood, make it evenly heat permeable along the thickness direction, and improve its plasticity. Preheating treatment can also promote the uniform distribution of moisture inside the wood, balance the difference in moisture content between all dried boards, create good drying conditions, and prevent cracking and deformation.
2. Do not use immediately after drying
From the end of mahogany drying to assembly and use, it usually takes more than 2 weeks to eliminate drying stress and smooth the moisture content gradient. Redwood furniture companies often overlook the final treatment of wood. Not leaving it for a long enough time after drying can lead to problems with furniture after assembly.
There are three treatment processes in the wood drying stage, namely intermediate treatment, balance treatment, and final treatment. Intermediate treatment is achieved through high-temperature and high humidity treatment to promote moisture absorption on the surface of wood, adjust the distribution of moisture in the surface and inner layers, reduce the gradient of moisture content, and ease the existing stress. The balance treatment is to improve the uniformity of the entire material pile drying and the uniformity of moisture content distribution along the thickness. The final treatment is a humidifying treatment performed to eliminate drying stress. After the final treatment of the wood, it needs to be placed in a dry material warehouse. The temperature inside the warehouse should be controlled between 35 ℃ to 40 ℃, and the relative humidity should be 40% to 50%.
3. The wind speed inside the drying kiln needs to be controlled
The internal wind speed of the steam drying room is determined by the fan. The magnitude of wind speed directly affects the drying effect, but this is often overlooked by furniture companies. Usually, the wind speed inside the kiln is high below and low above. The wind speed should be controlled at around 1.5m/s. Excessive wind speed can directly cause cracking. The width of the air duct between the material pile inside the kiln and the kiln arm is a major factor affecting the wind speed. What is the appropriate height for the material pile? What is the appropriate width of the air duct? This requires a high level of "stacking". In theory, the width of the air duct should not be less than half of the total thickness of the grid bars in the direction of the pile height.
4. Reasonably regulate the final moisture content of wood
Adjusting the moisture content of wood through wood drying, controlling the production process and environment. Firstly, it is necessary to reasonably regulate the final moisture content of wood drying. Usually sold to the south, the final moisture content should be controlled at 15% or below; When sold to the north, the final moisture content should be controlled at 12% or below. Secondly, try to shorten the production cycle as much as possible, so that the moisture content of each component is balanced and in place at the same time. Given the long production cycle of solid wood furniture, it is advisable to achieve specialized and streamlined production of components. Once again, store in a low moisture environment. It is better for southern enterprises to build a dehumidification room equipped with Dehumidifier to control the balance moisture content in the room. In addition, the blank of polished furniture components should be controlled within 12%; For non polished furniture components, the blank should be controlled within 14% before painting.
